Avoid a Switchboard Upgrade

Dynamic Load Balancing: Usually No Board Upgrade Needed

Plenty of homeowners are told they need a costly mains or switchboard upgrade before they can have an EV charger. In most cases they don't. We fit a small current sensor at your switchboard, and the charger reads your home's live power use and adjusts itself every few seconds. When the oven, heat pump and hot water are all running, the charger backs off, so your mains never trip. Once demand drops, it goes back to full speed. That can save you $1,500 to $2,500+ on upgrade work.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Christchurch?

Our supplied and installed prices start at $1,653 incl. GST. That covers the charger, a dedicated circuit (up to 10m of cable), labour and your Certificate of Compliance. If you already own a charger, installation only is $873 incl. GST.

How long does the installation take?

Most home installs take 3 to 5 hours and are finished in a single visit. If your switchboard does need upgrading, allow a few extra hours.

Will I need a switchboard upgrade?

Usually not. Most Christchurch homes can take a 7 kW charger, especially once Dynamic Load Balancing is fitted. Older boards or homes with very high electrical loads sometimes need work. We'll tell you upfront, and it will be in your quote.

Which charger brands do you supply?

We supply and install Tesla Wall Connector, Evnex (E2 Flex, E2 Core, E2 Plus, X7, X22), Wallbox (Pulsar Plus, Pulsar Max), Zappi, TeltoCharge and Smart EV Chargers with load balancing. Not sure which one to pick? Just ask and we'll recommend one.

Do I need a Certificate of Compliance?

Yes. Any new fixed electrical installation in New Zealand, EV chargers included, needs a Certificate of Compliance confirming it meets AS/NZS 3000. We issue one with every install at no extra cost.

Can my charger run off my solar panels?

Yes. Solar-ready chargers such as the Zappi and the Evnex E2 Plus can use your surplus solar before drawing power from the grid, which makes charging even cheaper.

Do you cover rural properties and outer suburbs?

Yes. We cover all of greater Christchurch plus Selwyn and Waimakariri, including Rolleston, Lincoln, Prebbleton, West Melton, Kaiapoi, Rangiora and Woodend. Longer cable runs on rural sites are priced in your fixed quote.

What warranty do I get?

All our installation work carries a workmanship warranty. The charger hardware is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, which is typically 2 to 3 years depending on the brand.
